I'm a Retired Deaf Activist

I was born to a Deaf person in the middle of a hearing family who does not know sign language and grew up in different ways, neither in the Deaf world nor the hearing world. I studied at a Deaf school using a read-lips method and a mainstream school. So, I'm also a former mainstreamed school alumnus. What was the experience I have become a Deaf person? It was a thrilling journey. Living in an unfriendly country always be challenging. I sometimes was asked why was I born like that and why was I stuck at this family who doesn't know sign language. It felt unfair, though.  I had been an activist since June 2016 and joined Gerkatin (Gerakan untuk Kesejahteraan Tuli untuk Indonesia) which is a Deaf organization. I worked lots-- such as an interpreter, sign language teacher, public speaker, event committee, coordinator, and lead the group, etc-- and had experienced lots, which downs and ups. It was mixed feelings. Being an activist that what you see it looks fun and cool but either t...

Banyak PR Untuk Indonesia

I think it's INHUMANE.".

How Much Important The Women's Soccer in Surakarta?

(Source: https://www.persissolo.id/berita/persis-resmi-membentuk-tim-profesional-putri) I was born in Sragen and grew up in different cities, Wonosobo (9 years), Surakarta (6 years), and now in Yogyakarta (4 years), I would probably move again. This is literally being nomads. But, Solo is my hometown. Where are my parents come from and raised, meanwhile they were born and raised in Sragen which is just 21 miles. I spent six years in Solo so I might be a shortener than my time in Wonosobo. However, Solo is would be my hometown. I can't speak in Javanese, but it doesn't mean that I can not be a Solo/ Surakarta person, that I would proud of where was I raised.  Growing as a Solo person, I never support Persis Solo aka a soccer team because I hate men's soccer, any of a 'soccer thing' even though I'm a Cules, an FC Barcelona fan and I'm more of an American sports fanatic fan, especially football and basketball. But by launching a new professional women's soc...

Why Should A Deaf Person Lives On A Hearing World?

As continued in previous writing titled "Am The Only Deaf Person", I want to speak on why should a Deaf person lives on a hearing world.  This is would be interesting because you know that none of many Deaf populations as much as hearing people have. Hearing people are bigger than Deaf people. Living as a Deaf person isn't easy, even for a hearing family who has Deaf children. Many hearing people do not know sign language. Only hearing people included a Deaf ally and maybe only 5% of the hearing people know sign language.  Which are least 10% of Deaf people who have studied at a mainstream school and as a bit of raised in the hearing world in all their life. As Surya-who was a Deaf panelist on Zoom- said that there are 90% of hearing families who have Deaf children and I can say only 4% of hearing families admitted to want to learn or teach sign language as a first language to their Deaf children. Everything can't change but Deaf people can be living on a hearing worl...

Am The Only Deaf Person?

"Am I The Only One" Aaron Lewis Would be neither easy to become a Deaf person in a middle hearing person. This is about mental and emotional. I have been spending "the only Deaf person" for the whole of my life. Feel isolated, have no one's chance, and feel uninvolved in the discussion. Why are you know that none of the hearing people as well know the Deaf culture and sign language? It feels bad.  Deaf people naturally have grown with full sign language accessibility. Without knowing full sign language accessibility, it would make Deaf people feel isolated and have bad emotions. I reminded when a Deaf British who was been a speaker about the Deaf psychology.  He spoke about how the years that live in a hearing community, can be 20 years, and more years when you get to feel. It affects the identity of a Deaf person and what will be.  How can I overcome things that feel bothered? As a Deaf person, the only thing I do is just write as much as I want to feel. Writin...

What For?

Made me on Canva I have been learning English since my freshman to pursue my dream. But, I feel a little setback after failing the English test. I just feel wasted. Useless. So, I don't think what for when I still talk in English. And, also, being a Deaf person, it doesn't easy to have a privilege. My life is useless and I have lost my money and also my time. Just asking myself, what for. What for I still learn, write, read, and talk in English all day and all my life. My life sucks. I have nothing here and at least my future plans. I just don't know why.  I just hope my life is better and being alone. I don't want to live with the closest people. I just need to be alone and do what I want to.  Writing a book and being unemployed. That's my life that has been created. As it is should be. I hate what is a dream. It sucks and is unreal. Useless.  I won't talk about it anymore. I am considering blocking my account and blogging. I think it should be done it. I just ...

Sign Language or Captioning? As Both As Well?

As being a Deaf person for a long-time, I would always get a question before I am going to take part in an event, the question is " Do you prefer a sign language interpreter or captioning/ typing? " My answer for sure is to request both as well. But, someone says that can not provide both as well and only wants to pick one up.  What do I prefer when I should pick only one between two options? Why do people think that all Deaf people only have one choice, by just providing a sign language interpreter without a person who works for captioning?  Deaf people have various backgrounds and ways of communication. Nobody just speaks sign language. There are anybody fluents in reading-lips and also both ways at the same time. So, that's various. Nobody could judge that Deaf people should only pick one of another option should Deaf people have. Deaf skills are different and that's should be honored, make sure Deaf people can feel comfortable with access to what they need and hav...

The Views of Hearing World, Gap, Ways of Life, And Thoughts

(Source: https://www.healthline.com/health/ableism-health-risk-for-deaf-community#1) Living in a hearing world is always interesting and such a beautiful world.  I spent in a Deaf world by studying in SLB/ a special needs school. So, I know much about ways of life, culture, and language, despite it being no sign language. Now, what about my views of the world hearing, here's I am writing about: A hearing world whose the majority of hearing people in this country and the world. Hearing people have a powerful on the Deaf community, for a long history. Sign language was forbidden and instead of read-lips was required to be taught at all Deaf schools, through the Milano 1880. It was a nightmare and heartbroken. People don't know that sign language was found in Europe in the 17th century. But was actually found in prior to 1492, the Deaf Native Americans signed PISL (Plains Indian Sign Language).  And also in the fifth century BC when Socrates was said, "If we hadn't a voic...
