I was testing a student who stood up to share her short story in signs in our class. She was so good at signing despite sign language being the third language that she is learning and isn't a native speaker. She was confused about gloss or glosa in Indonesian. That's the thing that is most often forgotten when learning and translating a foreign language. Foreign language teachers almost never teach about gloss to students and yeah, I am sure some do and some do not.  The Gloss (Gr) means when a word is attached to a sign in simple terms. It refers to the way that ASL (American Sign Language) names signs in order to give a sense of the meanings behind them. Saya belum pernah tinggal di luar negeri meskipun saya punya banyak teman asing yang mengunjungi Indonesia dan tinggal di Indonesia. Satu hal yang paling tidak diharapkan yang saya alami adalah memanggil "bule". Kata itu saya dengar sejak saya belajar di Wonosobo ketika orang Belanda datang. Dan sekarang, tetap saja semua orang menyebut orang asing yang berkunjung dan tinggal di Indonesia adalah bule. Saya tahu apa artinya dan dalam banyak alasan. Dalam KBBI (Kamus Bahasa Indonesia), bule berarti bulai (albinisme) dan orang kulit putih yang berasal dari Eropa dan Amerika Serikat atau orang Barat. Jadi, apa poin yang bisa Anda tangkap? I have never lived abroad yet despite I have many foreign friends who visited Indonesia and are living in Indonesia. One thing that the most unexpected that I experienced is calling "bule". The word that I'd heard since I studied at Wonosobo when Dutch people came. And, now, still, everyone calls foreign who visits and lives in Indonesia are bule. I know what it means and in many reasons. In KBBI (Indonesian dictionary), bule is meaning bulai (the albinism) and white people who are from Europe and the United States or westerners. So, what is the point that you can catch on to? Yeah, bule is white people only. It looks what I saw in the reality and even was a tour guide who help Deaf British visitors during their visit to Indonesia. Indonesians tend to ask for a photo with them and of course, foreigners will do but mostly not because of private reasons. But, in my analysis, mostly white people only Indonesians ask for a photo.
