The 23th Letter: A Controversial Offline Plans in 2021

On November 25th, 2020, I had been reading a lot of news about the Education Ministry has plans to reopen school and college in January 2021. They tell will make rules to make sure to protect them although we still the middle of the pandemic and Indonesia is in the highest Covid-19 cases in ASEAN. But, they saying that is only for new students, practicum, and thesis who are allowed to come to college. They also will apply the hybird learning system (online and offline systems).

Then, what is my reaction to that statement? I've just read the requirements of offline learning and I think they committed to protect all of people involved, including college leaders, lecturers, and students (new students, practicum, and thesis). I don't see how they do and how they keep a commitment. My hope is a free test everyday and makes a commitment to make sure to guarantee safety first.

Actually, I'm happy with this but I have people who work in the hospital for months and they never return home sometimes. So, I think we must take careful to make sure safety and healthy. As part of appreciation to the medical workers team, we must do the same things. You know, my mom is a nurse. So, I feel I have to do the same with her to follow the protocols. Not only a mask up but the whole of protocols commitment and discipline. It's has been a long time, I don't back to college. So, I miss a lot of things. Moreover, I took a few practicums lesson which couldn't do an online and it has takes an offline to improve the students competence. I totally can't understand what were they said on Zoom, WhatsApp Group, Google Classroom, or Google Meet. I think it wasn't optimal to help us.

At least, two movie shootings was canceled due to Covid-19, so that I feel that is such an important moment to back shooting in January 2021. I keep a promise to follow the protocols, like 14-day self isolate, a free Covid-19 test everyday, and make a deal with the college leaders. There is a challenge for me. I haven't a residence so that I have to find out of the list of residence has the best facilities (very close to my college, min. 10-15 minutes). Sure, I will contact the residence agents to make sure of safety first.

What this the point is? I am happy will back to college with the protocols. I can't wait to back shooting. I will finish my semester well before I will take an internship in June 2021 then take a thesis. I hope everything went smoothly and safely during the pandemic. I also hope the pandemic will passes away soon to back normal activities like 2019 year. I never give up to achieve my dreams list on my journey.

Thanks, everyone!

Saya ...

Gloss, A Forgotten Learning Foreign Language and Translate

I was testing a student who stood up to share her short story in signs in our class. She was so good at signing despite sign language being the third language that she is learning and isn't a native speaker. She was confused about gloss or glosa in Indonesian. That's the thing that is most often forgotten when learning and translating a foreign language. Foreign language teachers almost never teach about gloss to students and yeah, I am sure some do and some do not.  The Gloss (Gr) means when a word is attached to a sign in simple terms. It refers to the way that ASL (American Sign Language) names signs in order to give a sense of the meanings behind them. A word or word that represents that sign does not signify its meaning in any way (source: What Are Glosses in Sign Language/  https://www.ilovelanguages.com/what-are-glosses-in-sign-language ). A gloss happens because it causes when a student who learns a second language but their mind that used to be a native language as bo...
