Should Deaf Children Need Hearing Aids?

Source: What to expect if your child needs hearing aids https://www.healthyhearing.com/help/hearing-aids/children As born a Deaf person, I was raised by hearing therapy. Usually, when they are profoundly Deaf people, their parents go to hearing therapy, as expected to be able to hear and speak. Which, are hearing aids, cochlear implants, even shamans, or any offers that they have received from the doctor. I was raised by going to shamans, hearing therapy, hospital, and even going to the best hospital in Jakarta. What was the result? Nothing, as it didn't what my parents expect. My parents suggested having hearing aids and it happened when I studied in Wonosobo. I had two hearing aids, of different types. I reminded that was IDR 2 million or $135.7 USD and we bought it in Apotek Kimia Farma, Malioboro, Yogyakarta. We didn't use insurance because it was out-network health insurance. The most expensive is cochlear implants because you suppose to pay IDR 300 million or $20. 260 USD...

Deaf Women Are Matters!

Source: Freepik Free Photo| Deaf women communicating through sign language https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/deaf-women-communicating-through-sign-language_8969137.htm Did you know why we never find more Deaf women in our community? The Deaf female population is fewer than the Deaf male, I am not sure about how number, but it seems not much what I said. So, that's why the organization is male-dominated and has almost no female representative. That's bad for sure! I'm not going to be happy by seeing the fewer participation Deaf females in Indonesia. That's not okay for me. We need more participation in Deaf females so Deaf females have an equal chance as men do and they can lead the organization and then make the change we expected in the future.  But now kinda better and more female representative. We had a thrilling program to encourage Deaf youth females. If I am not mistaken, we had a Deaf girl who was selected to represent Indonesia in participating in the World De...

Why Are Men Less Interested in Learning Sign Language?

Source: Why Great Sign Language Interpreters Are So Animated https://cdn.theatlantic.com/media/mt/food/g1%20615.jpg As a sign language teacher, I would notice that so many women are more interested to learn sign language than men. All my classes tend to be dominated by women. I don't know why it happens. We discussed how to recruit more male prospective students in our class but it was tough to find it and still accept the dominated women. For example, a class has 20 students consisting of only 3 men and 17 women. I was reading two websites that linked wondering about what women are more interested to learn sign language than men. There were just opinions and not research. I taught students of the fifty-fifty by 2 women and 2 men of 6 students and it was in 2021 when we limited the students' quota due to pandemics.  That was far fair in my teaching experience. I have never seen all male-dominated in my sign language class. You can read the links here: https://www.reddit.com/r/a...

Why Do Deaf People Should Need Bilingual?

Source: Sign Language Isn't Just For Babies. Illustration: A mom teaches a sign "more" in ASL to her baby. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/23/opinion/sign-language-isnt-just-for-babies.html Deaf people are kind of unique and have many things that hearing people do not have. For example, is by bilingual education, Deaf children have potentially mastered more than two languages and more polyglot than hearing people who only know one language. Deaf newborns get two accessed languages at the same time, except depends on who their parents are, neither hearing nor Deaf. If their parents know sign language, I believe that will give fully accessed to bilingual parenting to Deaf children. Sign language is a mother tongue for the Deaf people, then written or verbal language is a second language. That means all Deaf children need to be taught two or more languages. Doesn't it benefit? Hearing children just need to be taught one language. It depends on where you get to. If you we...

Life, The Way All About

Source: Orthodox Christianity https://orthochristian.com/111373.html When you are feeling lost, lonely, alone, failed, sad, and anxious, this is what about feel. But you are given to be alive by the Lord so you are going to have to move on and so. Life is short. So, all the time that what about the way to go and no chance look back.  The verse says don't worry about tomorrow, yep, this is what you worry but you still have to go on. The only two picks you have is moving on or stopping. Just that all.  To be honest, I have fear of being alone, this is my life. That is something I can't reveal about what life is. My hangout friend said that his friend criticized his life after resigning from his double job and looks fear of the future. He was I was feeling about, it is empathy since what I felt to be that position he placed now. I remind of The Keeping Room, in which a black woman who was a slave to two white girls survived by keeping their room from the confederate soldiers atta...

I Live in One Small Room By One Person, 9x9 Square Feet

Source: Women's Health https://www.womenshealthmag.com/relationships/a26228055/fear-of-being-alone-autophobia/ I live in a small room of 9 x 9 square feet/ 3x3 meter, one room by one person, and I don't have a private bathroom. I don't know what it causes I live in a small room. I don't know. My English lecturer died last night and I felt awful and sad. He was the best lecturer and always assisted me to learn English when I was a sophomore. Before that, I have new friends, the best one, the environment, and the house, and definitely, I will be able to be welcomed by the community. But in as time goes on, I always feel alone and lonely. That is different with live independently, in which I can be doing what usually I do. I have fear of being alone for a long time. When I went to Richesse Factory at Lippo Mall and ate no-spicy food with level 2, it was perfect and delicious. But I envy where I sat down next to two girls who took a spicy food challenge, I thought and they ...

How Deaf People Experience Music?

Source: Drooble The Blog Fell the vibe: How deaf people experience music and create music When I was at the International English Center, I listened to music on my white earphone, my friend asked me, "How do you experience music?" This was a good question because hearing people think that Deaf people can't listen to music.  I answered, "Yes, I do!" How can it be? Here's I want to share how Deaf people experience music.  Deaf people can do anything except can't hear you know. Music is kind of identical to people who can listen to and sing. So, how can Deaf people experience music?  Firstly, we must always be grateful to God because we are born to have a modern-technology and it makes our life become easier and more accessible. My cellphone has Spotify-- which features lyrics so I can listen to music by singing the lyrics. Musixmatch also has the same feature. And, I can feel how it sounds will be like loud, medium, or soft, and what kind of sound I listen...
